prairie house
American New
2021
A reimagining of an early 1900’s Prairie Style home in the historic Olde Towne East neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio. The home was originally designed in the early 1900’s by Florence Kenyon Hayden Rector, Ohio’s first female architect.
We found inspiration in the history of the home, yet wanted to avoid a complete preservationist approach to a restoration.
I call it “American New” - neutral colors, loads of woodwork and rich details, traditional materials (marble, wood, linen, leather) and silhouettes, but with modern sensibility: painted monochrome, and peppered with euro and MCM staples throughout. Nothing was off the table with this one.
